On 5 July 2026, Atlas Intelligence began assembling its founding team. Eight members came together over the following weeks, across engineering, intelligence, and domain work.
Why they joined
The reasons people gave for joining Atlas were consistent, and they were not primarily about compensation or titles. They were about the kind of work:
- A shared interest in building infrastructure rather than applications. Several members had worked on products where the interesting problems were always one layer down, and they wanted to work at that layer.
- A belief that serious technical work can be done from Malawi, and that the vantage point of building from here is an advantage rather than a limitation.
- A preference for long horizons. Infrastructure takes years to get right. The people who joined Atlas were looking for that kind of commitment, not a fast exit.
- An interest in the domains themselves. Energy, logistics, and public-sector systems are not abstractions for the team. They are the conditions of daily life.
The eight members
The founding team spans the disciplines the platform requires. Engineering covers the platform, data, and intelligence layers. Domain work covers the operational reality that the platform is built to reason about. Corporate work covers the structure the company needs to operate.
Atlas remains a small team. It intends to stay that way for as long as possible. The addition of new members will be gradual and deliberate, and the roles we are currently hiring for are described on the careers page.
The vantage point of building from Malawi is an advantage, not a limitation.
What comes next
With the team in place, work moved into implementation planning, described in a subsequent entry.
